Corporate satellite networks
Information Network is a set of hardware, software and services required today for businesses and organizations. Applications for specific tasks effectively use the resources of the network infrastructure and any user should have access to all necessary information anywhere and at any time.
Network with its number of services or with its full set («multiservice network») is a unified communications infrastructure, capable to work with different traffic: telephone (including IP), high-speed Internet access (including IP-TV, sending files , IP-video, etc.), the exchange of data between local networks, television and radio. It makes possible to reduce the number of types of equipment and apply the same standards, to effectively manage traffic and significantly reduce the cost of service of network equipment. In other way the versatility and modularity of such network allows users to form any desired set of services.
Depending on the tasks there are the following networks: enterprise, network operators, subscriber, etc. The task of corporate information networks is to construct a transparent and productive IT infrastructure linking the company or unit of government services into a single information space, which provides users with unified access to all data and applications with guaranteed quality of service.
During the organization of corporate information networks or government offices that have geographically distributed network to branch offices and sites, if it is necessary to transfer to long-distance and provide service to large number of users they are using satellite and cable channels, as well as terrestrial wireless channels. So while you choices a corporate network, a representative of a large company or government services with geographically dispersed branch offices forced first of all to evaluate the characteristics of a desired traffic channel, and stop at one of the types (cable, satellite or terrestrial wireless), or their combination, not excluding the fact that the hybrid network will require large expenditures because of the different types of equipment.
It is well-known fact that the main ways to make global (intercontinental) and regional connections are using satellite and submarine cables. An optical fiber cables became inexpensive and most reliable way to provide high-speed data transmission between two points with the increasing of capacity that is ahead of rising demand, as a result the reduction of cost of equipment. Satellites are continuing to have an advantage in ensuring of universal access, which is important in television and radio and in sparsely populated areas, with a system based on LEO satellites provide an alternative ways of mobile communication subscribers in any area of the Earth. However, installation of fiber optic systems to create new lines takes from several months to several years, but new satellite links can be deployed in a minutes. Implemented by technical solutions leads to the fact that the services of cable and satellite communications are improving their cost decreases. Although the cost of intercontinental communication systems based on fiber-optic submarine cables initially below (one telephone channel is 5 – 10 dollars per year) than satellite communications systems with similar capacity (one phone channel – about $ 50 per year), with little traffic in sparsely populated areas of satellite communications. As a result of many years of development of fiber-optic system is providing communication lines and data lines «East – West», and satellite system set up lines of communication «North – South» and «City – Village». So the reasonable combination of fiber-optic, wireless and satellite communications that complement each other depending on the area of application and needs of subscribers is a promising direction in the development of global communications.
So the satellite communication provides:
- faster providing of services: from the moment of need the satellite communications network (antenna, modem and cable network) is deployed more quickly than terrestrial fiber network (a few weeks against months), and additional bandwidth in the satellite network can be obtained almost immediately;
- the best characteristics of the network are : satellite connections improves performance through a direct connection to teleport of the Internet without the use of congested local lines and numerous changes in the route in the transmission of data;
- low cost of a network: satellites delivers data to large geographic areas without overcoming the obstacles in the form of terrestrial infrastructure or geographic barriers, as a result the independence of the cost of connection from a distance. In addition, the capacity of satellite lines is easy to adjust to the real data transfer rate of the subscriber, which allows to pay for only the necessary resources.
Very useful information, thanks.
